EVIDENCE BASED PRACTICES (EBP)
Between September 12th-20th, over 100 adult and juvenile officers
participated in Evidence Based Practices (EBP) training facilitated by
Special Projects and Research Manager Karyn Milligan, Adult Supervision
Manager James Friedrich, and Supervising Probation Officer Rose Zamora.
The training included a review of the eight principles of Evidence Based
Practices and the practical application of each. These concepts and their
practical application will continue to be reinforced as the Department
moves to an even greater understanding and deeper implementation of
Evidence Based Practices. Great job everyone!
PROBATION REPORT AND RESOURCE
CENTER (PRRC)
In June 2019, the Probation department began directing
clients to report to the Probation Report and Resource
Center following release from custody. This change in
business practice allows clients to enroll and participate
in programs upon release. From July 1st to September
30th, the Santa Maria Probation Report and Resource
Center increased enrollments by 15% from the previous
year and the Santa Barbara Probation Report and
Resource Center increased 31%. In addition, both sites
have contracted with Community Solutions, Inc. to
provide case management services for clients.
Intervention Specialists may also use Interactive
Journaling®, an evidenced-based case management
model, as a resource tool. The Probation Report and
Resource Center continues to provide evidence-based
cognitive behavioral programs designed to teach
impulse control, problem solving techniques. Through
collaboration and cooperation between Probation and
community based organizations, the Probation Report
and Resource Centers are able to provide the necessary
tools needed for our re-entry population to gain success
as they transition back into the community.
