CALIFORNIA STATE


              ASSOCIATION OF


              COUNTIES (CSAC) SUMMIT




              On September 25th-26th, representatives from nineteen counties across California attended the annual
              California State Association of Counties (CSAC) Summit to collaborate on evidence-based policy-making
              strategies. Representatives from the department included Chief Probation Officer Tanja Heitman, Deputy
              Chief Probation Officer (DCPO) Kim Shean, and Department Business Specialist Julius Baldueza.

              Chief Tanja Heitman presented alongside Chief Probation Officers Wendy Still from Alameda County and
              Fernando Giraldo from Santa Cruz County. The panel discussed using data analysis to answer key criminal
              justice questions, the tools available to address these questions, strategies to inform practice, and the
              integration of data analysis into local work. Other presentations included using logic models and process
              maps to guide program design, contracting practices, and the use of data analytics.

              CAMPAIGN





              "Give  Where  You  Live!";  the  2019  County  of  Santa  Barbara  Charitable  Giving  Campaign  ran  from
              September 9th to October 19th. Every year, the Probation Department's donations aid in causes such as:

                   The Dolly Parton Imagination Library where 1,200+ children receive a free book every month
                   Kindergarten Success Institutes helping 250+ pre-K kids prepare for success in school
                   Free income tax assistance for 5,000+ families equating to millions of dollars in refunds
                   Fun in the Sun where 300 at-risk students attend a summer enrichment program and their parents
                   receive support throughout the summer
                   United  Way  online  literacy  tools  improving  the  reading  skills  of  10,500+  local  students  in  40+
                   schools
                   Housing and ongoing services for 200 homeless adults

              The  Charitable  Giving  Steering  Committee  and  Department  Representatives  give  thanks  to  all  who
              participated in this event!
